...By the time Al Beckreya arrived, the elaborate tents were being dismantled and only a few time keepers and vets remained, but both Janie and her horse, who had slowly walked some of the last loop and then trotted with new energy in the last stretch before home, were warmly greeted by enthusiastic friends. The catchphrase of endurance racing is 'To finish is to win,' and within 30 minutes of crossing the finish line, Al Beckreya was deemed fit by the judges and became a happy winner.
