CARTHAGE, Mo. ? About three years back, Dina Stevens? curiosity had bubbled over. Stevens begged her friend Genie Wunderlich, who had participated in competitive endurance horse riding since 1989, to allow her to accompany Wunderlich on a ride.
?It was just a conditioning ride, but I took her on the fastest, wildest ride I had ever taken anybody on,? Wunderlich said.
Evidently, it wasn?t too wild, because Stevens was hooked. Upon her return home, Dina?s husband, Carl, could immediately sense a passion that needed to be delved into further.
?She came home and seriously that was all I heard about for a few days,? Carl said. ?So, she had five weeks to get ready for her first race, and it all took off from there.?

Bahrain: Taher lifts title in endurance race

YOUSEF Taher of the Royal Endurance Team won the seniors race while Fahad Sulaiman of Al Asayel Stable bagged the juniors crown in the Bahrain International Endurance Horseride Challenge, organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef), yesterday at the Endurance Village in Sakhir.
The event, which was sponsored by Batelco, featured two races for the juniors and seniors over 119 kms in addition to two qualifying races which were warm up events held over 85 and 60 kms.

The 160-km ride is being jointly organised by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation and the Emirates International Endurance Village under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.

UAE: Australia Fields Riders for President's Cup
6 Australian Champions Attend Event
Fresh from their success at the World Championship, Australia, winners of the team Silver Medal, have six invited riders competing in 2005 HH Presidents Cup in Abu Dhabi.
The husband and wife team of Peter and Penny Toft were members of that successful team. Both the Tofts will be riding horses from the Al Reef Stable of HH Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Dubai: A host of VIPs and royals participated in the FEI World Endurance Championship. General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence, led the way for the UAE with his three sons: Shaikh Hamdan, Shaikh Rashid and Shaikh Majid.
Others taking part were Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain of Jordan, Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his brother Shaikh Khalid from Bahrain, Sultan Mizan Zailnal of Malaysia and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani from Qatar.
