Great Britain: What a year! 14 successes in 14 rides

Endurancegb.co.uk - Full Story

(Published:20 October 2014)

Nicki Thorne has had the most magical year - 'dreams really do come true ! Everyone who rides horses at any level knows how tough it can be and sometimes it's hard enough to get around the smaller distances so I am unbelievably proud of my wonderful horses who are competing over the bigger distances and have given me such an incredible result.

It goes without saying that you cannot do the FEI rides without a amazing team and I have incredible people with me at the rides - my husband Andy Thorne who is always at my side supporting me every step of the way and Michelle Macleod my crew extraordinaire, but also my people at home who enable me to travel with the horses - Daniel Stehlik and Fiona Clark. These people give me the confidence to go out there and concentrate on the horses without distractions...

Spain: Emma Rosell deserved win in Ripoll CEI2 **

Last weekend, on 11 and 12 October the Raids "Comte Arnau" of Ripoll were played, with two world-class raids, two and one star respectively, and a territorial zero stars, with a total 55 horse-rider pairs.

The showpiece, the CEI2 **, was played on a total of 140 miles in two days with two stages each day. Since the first phase of the first day, a group of nine pairs almost came together to the finish, where Omar Blanco and SHEER ARIANA took over the top spot in the vetgate, followed by Qatari Falek Nasser al Bughenaim and QUARNIK DU BRUGUET.

The six survivors group head out for the second day in accordance with their vetgate times so the competition was still open. In the final phase Guillem Soldevila with AS JUANITA and Falek Nasser Al Bughenaim with QUARNIK DU BRUGUET as breakaway companions came forward, with Bughenaim and QUARNIK DU BRUGUET reaching the finish line almost 10 minutes ahead of Soldevila and AS JUANITA. These two did not pass the final veterinary check so the win in a sprint finish went to Emma Rosell with LLUDRIGA DE MASFERRER followed by Omar Blanco with SHEER ARIANA. Third place went to Christina Yebra with CALZADILLA.

In the CEI1* played on Sunday 85 kilometers in three phases, Guillem Carol, Josep Tapias and Khalid Al Nuaimi led the test during the first phase, but Carol fell behind in the final kilometers. In the second phase the Qatari Al Nuami came first but his mount QUESBAL DU VERGNET did not pass the vet check. This left Marc Rabeya standing first with IRWIN, followed by Tapias with TREK IRRINTZI in 5 minutes. In the final phase, Rabeya and IRWIN kept their lead but did not pass the final trot out, and the victory went to Africa Pou and AINHOA FLASH who had passed Tapias and IRRINTZI. Third place went to Jordi Pons with CATA DE MONTFLUQ.

On Saturday, on the same route, Josep Roma earned zero stars with ANDROMINA RP ahead of Gil Casallarch with NOBLEMANN and Laia Serra with ASIM NAIDA.

Congratulations to all!
