China: Bayinbuluke Swan Lake International Endurance

The second Bayanbulak Swan Lake Equestrian Endurance Race was held Saturday at the Bayanbulak Grassland in Xinjiang's Bayingol Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture. Horse riders from different areas in and outside China have taken part in the race. Adopting the international rules for the first time, this race pays more attention to the welfare of the horses.

More than 100 horsemen from all over China including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Beijing, Xinjiang and other provinces as well as from Singapore have competed in the Bayanbulak Swan Lake Equestrian Endurance Race

Great Britain: Young Rider European Championships - Kreuth August 2010

Beth Langley has been selected to ride as an Individual in the Young Rider European Championships to be held in Kreuth, Germany from 2nd-8th August 2010. Whilst Great Britain is committed to sending an Endurance Team to World and European Championships under the International Competition World Class Performance Plan adopted by EGB, it has not been possible to achieve this objective for 2010 and an exception has been made this year to send only one individual. The new Team Management are working towards sending a Team overseas in future.

WEG 2010: Unveiling of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Trophies to Showcase the Bluegrass

LEXINGTON, KY - 71 Days to Go—The beauty of the horse and the spirit of the Bluegrass will be showcased in the unveiling of the trophies and medals to be presented to the world champions of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

Lexington-based luxury gift store and fine trophy provider, L.V. Harkness & Co., has worked intimately with Moser Crystal of the Czech Republic to create team and individual trophies and medals for each of the eight disciplines participating in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

The 2010 Games will feature eight world championships of equestrian sport and are being held for the first time in the United States September 25-October 10 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.

The team trophies were designed to showcase each discipline with the true spirit of the Bluegrass; the Kentucky Horse Park skyline and four-plank fencing provide the background for each of the eight trophies. The trophies took over 14 months to create from start to finish and are valued at approximately $50,000 each. These truly magnificent works of art are sure to be admired for years to come.

“The trophies and medals created by L.V. Harkness are not only beautiful, but also showcase Kentucky as the Horse Capital of the World,” said Jamie Link, CEO of the World Games 2010 Foundation. “The world champions crowned during the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games will have a beautiful piece of the Bluegrass State to take home with them.”

Margaret Jewett, owner of L.V. Harkness & Co. is no stranger to horses or trophies. In 1891, Jewett’s great-grandfather, Lamon Vanderburg Harkness, purchased Walnut Hall Stock Farm near Lexington, Kentucky; he transformed the farm into the foremost standardbred breeding and racing establishment in the world. Jewett is also the co-founder and on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Equine Humane Center, an organization dedicated to providing humane treatment and shelter for all of Kentucky's unwanted equines. Australia: Tom Quilty Gold Cup National Championship Endurance Ride

The Tom Quilty Gold Cup National Championship Endurance ride was held in Manilla from the 24th to the 27th of June 2010. Manilla is a small, picturesque town located in North West New South Wales at the junction of the Manilla and Namoi Rivers. The population of around 2200 was doubled during the week of the Quilty.
Around 300 riders, their horses, their support crew and volunteers converged on the Manilla Showground and surrounding areas. Entries were received from New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia as well as New Zealand, the USA, the UK, Namibia and Japan. Rigs and floats of all shapes and sizes set up camp for the week, enjoying some unseasonably warm winter weather.
292 Horse and Riders set off from the Manilla Showground at Midnight on Friday the 25th of June to a full moon and the sound of Trevor Knights Quilty Song. Hundreds of locals gathered with the hundreds of volunteers and strappers to see the horses off and wish them luck. They were treated with the spectacular sight of horses and riders crossing the low-level bridge over the Namoi River with the reflection on the water lit up from the light towers. They then watched the mass of horses flow along the opposite side of the river, with torches shining as they wound their way out into the darkness.
The first and second legs traversed 43km along local gravel roads through farm land before crossing the Manilla River and returning to the Showground along the banks of the river. The first riders completed these two legs in around 4 hours. These legs provided a safe track for the large number of horses travelling in the dark.

Ten More Days Until the 55th Annual Tevis Cup Ride July 24, 2010!

There is still time left to enter the 2010 Tevis Cup, on July 24, 2010.

Volunteers are still needed (see the Tevis website), and sponsorships are still available.

HRTV is filming a documentary at TEVIS this year.
Television station HRTV is sending six cameramen and crew members to Tevis this year to gather footage for what will be a one-hour documentary about the ride. We've been planning their routes and strategy for months and scouting out places for them to shoot. It's going to be a great production, so smile for the camera when you see them along the trail! We'll let you know when the documentary airs on HRTV.

USA: North American Young Riders Endurance Ride (NAYRER) on July 29

Held in conjunction with the North American Junior/Young Riders
Championships, the North American Young Riders Endurance Ride (NAYRER) will be help in
Shaker Village - Harrodsburg, Kentucky, on July 29th.

The NAJYRC is the premier equestrian competition in North America for junior and young riders, age 14-21. Young equestrians come from the United States, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Islands to vie for team and individual FEI medals in the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage, eventing and the World Equestrian Games discipline of reining. The competition is run under rules of the FEI (Federation Equestre Internationale), the international governing body for equestrian sport, and is the only FEI championship held annually on this continent.
